Origin: steam distilled leaf, Morocco (wildcrafted).
Its aroma is spicy, somewhat camphoraceous and herbaceous. It is indicated for colds, virus infections and mouth ulcers. Externally for massage in muscular aches and pains, including arthritis. Can be inhaled in a blend for the respiratory system. It is an expectorant. Because of the high amount of phenols, this essential oil is a good antiseptic for the respiratory system. Bay laurel may be used for sprains and bruises. Useful as a scalp and hair tonic, recommended for hair loss, greasy hair or flaky scalp.
Blends well with bergamot, cedarwood, lemon, rosemary and patchouli, ylang-ylang as top note A leaf decoction added to bath water will relieve aching limbs, and diluted leaf essential oil can treat sprains and rheumatic joints but may irritate the skin. The leaf and berry are used in salves for itching, sprains, bruises, skin irritations, and rheumatic pain. The fruit and leaf are simmered until soft and made into a poultice with honey for chest colds.
Bay leaf and berry tea makes a bath additive that helps the bladder, bowel, and female reproductive organs. Use two tablespoons per cup and steep for forty-five minutes; add to bath water. Use Leaf and Berry . Sprains; Colds; Flu; Insomnia; Rheumatism.
Other Uses: The incense and the leaf are said to produce a prophetic trance.
